WHAT IS IOT AND HOW CAN IT BENEFIT YOU?
IoT or the “Internet of Things” is the connection of everyday devices, to exchange information with one another. For example, pumps, motors, telemetry devices, sensors and control systems – to things such as home or work appliances, buildings, parks, beds, furniture and effects.
These “things” typically exist on separate networks such as SCADA, building networks, physical security networks or specific IoT networks. IoT networks can be both wired and Wireless. Wireless IoT networks include BLE, LoraWAN, SigFox, WiFi and 4G.
Gateways connecting these separate networks pass data through to an analytics platform. The platform can understand what is normal and what requires an assured response or action, tailoring to your business workflows. Sensor devices are programable to send data to the platform if required i.e. temperature has reached a threshold.
More connectivity of “things” can reduce human intervention and/or provide more insights to allow for more informed decisions, reducing risk, improving safety and increasing efficiency.
