WHAT IS VOICE BIOMETRICS AND HOW CAN IT BENEFIT YOUR BUSINESS?
Voice biometrics is using a person’s voice to identify them. A person’s voice can be used in the same way as fingerprints. Once a voice signature has been stored from a phrase it can be used to match the same person’s voice when they call again. This analogy has obvious use cases such as fraud detection and identity theft in the banking and insurance industry, however the application of this technology has been used for much more.
Companies are recognising the benefit of using voice biometrics. Contact centres are starting to use this to identify customers to reduce the verification time when servicing them which results in a better experience for the end customer i.e. no more verifying the user by asking for the date of birth and mother’s maiden name etc. Educational institutions have used voice biometrics for the identification of students taking online exams. Voice biometrics can verify staff members before allowing access to restricted areas with the use of intercoms. It can be used with other biometric devices or PIN/passwords to provide a two or three factor authentication. Ultimately, this application works to either increase the security of an existing system or automate a manual process.
